Balsall Common Primary School Children keep on Giving

Balsall Common Primary School Academy, part of Central Schools Trust, invited two charities, the Air Ambulance Service and Guide Dogs in to school recently to collect a cheque for £546.72 each. The money was raised as a result of the generous donations and sponsorship made by parents and grandparents over 4 days where the children held a bake sale, a raffle, had a ‘Dancathon’ and finally all dressed in yellow, the Air Ambulance colours.

Students at Balsall Common Primary were paid a visit from an engineer at Jaguar Land Rover who promoted science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) careers to students.

Balsall Common Primary benefits from hard work of former pupil Mikey

It is a relatively unknown condition and so little research has gone into it that there are very few resources to help deal with it.

Mikey decided to change that and set up a charity called “Mikey’s Wish” to raise funds to help others so that they may not face the challenges he has recognised that help and wants to give back.

Life saving with the Lions

Last week saw the annual visit to Balsall Common Primary School by The Balsall Common Lions Club and their appointed First Aiders; this year it was Warwickshire Hearts.
Children learnt the importance of knowing CPR and how being able to perform it can be vital in saving a life. In Scandinavia, 27% of people are trained and know how to perform CPR. In the UK, it is just 7%.

Balsall Common Primary School Academy recently had a special visit from Rod Adlington, Owner and Director of Adlington Ltd (Turkeys). The topic of Marketing was perfect for Rod and his company. Specialising in free range turkeys, Rod has an obvious spike in sales that he needs to plan for but, at the same time, keep his business running all year round.

Howard Rose Radio Interview

Mr Howard Rose the Funding and Publicity manager for Balsall Common Primary School was interviewed on radio. He talks about the school, sponsors, his role, a lot about STEM and how other businesses can get involved.

Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport, has agreed to sponsor all of the ingredients for the club and has also invited the children over for a tour of a professional kitchen in the hope of inspiring some chefs of the future.

Balsall Common Primary School Academy recently had a Sponsored Read, Ready Steady Read, in conjunction with Usborne Books at Home and Well Balanced Books.
Mrs Jennifer Reed, yes honestly her name is Reed, said, “I was thrilled to be able to work with BCPS earlier this year, to help Mrs Shimmell organise a Ready Steady Read event. The pupils at Balsall Common Primary did an amazing job, and thanks to their efforts, we managed to raise an amazing total of £1,647.43.

Howards Hat Trick!

 

Howard Rose, Central Schools Trust Lead for Funding & Publicity, based at Balsall Common Primary School Academy, has done it again, scooping his third award in 12 months. He fought off stiff competition to take the Forest of Arden, Marriott Hotel & Solihull Observer’s Business Man of The Year.

Year 5 Pupils learn to firefight!

                   

Children from Balsall Common Primary School, Coventry have been on a very special trip. They were given a hands-on tour of the College.

Steve Skarratt, Head of Prevention and Protection Training, was the tour guide for the day along with Justin Thorn, Head of Operational Training. The children started the tour in the classroom learning some of the dos and don’ts of fire. They then moved onto the simulation suite to put some of their new found skills into practice by being an incident commander and directing a fire crew.

Balsall Common Primary School F1 Challenge Winners

A team of Year 4 budding engineers from Balsall Common Primary School, called Sonic Speed, have won a place at the National Final in the F1 in Schools Challenge Midlands Regional Final, which was held at Princethorpe College.

 The F1 in Schools Jaguar Primary School Challenge engages with primary school students and teachers. It involves designing and manufacturing the fastest car possible, by emulating the design and engineering processes employed by engineering companies.
